Seasonality:
The organic Roscoff onion PDO can be identified by its pink skin and flesh, and also by its flavour. This round onion is quite mild, sweet and juicy. The organic Roscoff onion PDO also keeps for longer than other onion varieties. Consumed raw, it brings complex aromas to the dish it accompanies. When cooked, the organic Roscoff onion PDO has a tender texture. This variety is special in that it cooks much faster than other onion varieties.
Protected Designation of Origin, a guarantee of high quality
The Roscoff onion first obtained the AOC label (controlled designation of origin) in 2009 and then, in 2013, the PDO label (Protected Designation of Origin). These labels represent the official European recognition of the variety. The Roscoff onion PDO differs from the Brittany pink onion by the fact that it is cultivated in a restricted area and cleaned by hand, and each producer undertakes to comply with strict specifications.
